Lisa Adams Completes Work On Her LA Metro Commission.

Lisa Adams, Stony Point Park, Chatsworth, CA, Commission by Los Angeles METRO (LACMTA)

In October 2010, Lisa Adams was commissioned by Los Angeles Metro to create an art panel for the Chatsworth Station, the end station of the Orange Line Extension.
In keeping with her interest in the natural environment, she proposed to paint a panoramic view of Chatsworth’s Stony Point Park, a location often used as a backdrop for Hollywood westerns. The painting also features a selection of plant materials native to the area.

Her research led her to hike the area and photograph Stony Point Park. Adams explained, “The longer I sat still in the landscape the more I could see. Many of the native plants are so tiny that it requires slow looking, almost like a meditation to see some of them.” She used her own photographs as a resource for the painting.

The painting will be scanned and scaled up to 20 feet long. The image will be printed on enamel panels and installed in the station, creating what is referred to as the art panel. The station is due to be completed within the next 18-24 months. The painting becomes part of the Metro collection and will hang in the headquarter offices in downtown Los Angeles.

In addition to the art panel, Lisa has designed an 8 x 24 ft. ellipse for the station platform deck. The ellipse depicts a running horse in silhouette against a gradated, blue background and will be set in glass mosaic tile. The image of the horse speaks to the long tradition of horse keeping in the Chatsworth area.
